THE Warwickshire Race Equality Partnership states it has investigated a total of 32 cases in Warwick district during the period from April 2007 to April 2008 (Courier, last week).
In the year before that there was a grand total of 11 cases deemed worthy of investigation.

So in two years there have been a total of 43 cases. Simple maths tells me that equals an average of one incident every 17 days.

The figures for the wh
ole county are 63 and 102 respectively. So the average for the entire county is just under one incident every four days. Given the population of Warwickshire, I think that is good cause for a collective pat on the back, rather than the strictures from Mr Arun Kang, the chief executive of this so-called partnership.

In fact I hold firmly to the belief that the British have been proved to be possibly the most racially tolerant society on earth. Which other nation would have accepted, and largely assimilated, so many immigrants in such a relatively short timescale?

It would be interesting to know how many of these incidents were subsequently found to be of no or little merit. We all know that by the nature of things, some will prove to be trivial in nature, while others will doubtless be more serious. Regrettably we are given no information.

As one of the county's hard pressed tax-payers, can I ask via the medium of this newspaper, that Mr Kang tells us how many staff apart from himself are required to deal with an average of one case every four days. Also what does this "partnership" cost us taxpayers each year, and just how is it financed? As ratepayers I believe we all have a right to this information, though I have a bad feeling that the answers will prove rather upsetting to most council tax payers. - David Brown, Sandown Close, Lillington.
