Cubbington Primary School pupils have been admiring a new addition to their building.
A 6ft tall cross made from Canadian red cedar wood has been put up above the old school building in Church Hill.
It was made and donated to the school by Craig Pensom, the Ryton-based craftsman who is currently working on the village's new pavilion.
Cubbington vicar the Rev Rosemary Pantling, who blessed the cross, said: "I have been very impressed since arriving in the village and going into the school to find that being a church school is not just a title but it means something to them.
"There are deep Christian values in the school which permeates everything they do.
"The cross is a symbol of what the school stands for and we are delighted they are educating children with the message of God's love for them."
Mrs Pantling explained that former Cubbington pupils, who attend St Mary's church, were "excited" to hear about the cross at a service on Sunday .
