Bill Sprawson won the Warwick pensioners' group match at Dog Lane, Napton, on Tuesday with a haul of 36lb 8oz.
Runner-up Ernie Archer netted 27-0 and Sam Cleaver was third with 24-8. The rest of the top six comprised Alan Powell 22-8, Sid Gaskins 19-0 and Don Steere and Don Grant, who both took 15-4.

Next week’s match is at Sniterfield. Members are reminded they will need two nets each.

Dog Lane Saturday open: 1 J Whitehead 51-12 (carp, pole and paste), 2 S Bull 39-1, 3 S Adkins 32-12.

Gordon Thorpe won the latest Jets MG series match on the canal at Bascote, but Bob Taylor retains the overal series lead after finishing second. Result: 1 Gordon Thorpe 4-9, 2 Bob Taylor 3-6.8, 3 Andy Curless 2-10, 4 Glen Morris 2-1.

Entries are invited for the annual Jets charity shield match, which takes place at Lychgate fisheries, Stoke Golding, near Nuneaton, on Sunday August 31. The six-hour event is in aid of the Memphis Nuresey in Stoke Golding and Warwick hospital’s cancer care unit.

First-time angler Devon Rees caught a 1lb 8oz rainbow trout on his first ever trip.

The 11-year-old, pictured above, took the fish using a gold head buzzer nymph at the Harbury Lane trout fishery after practicing casting in his grandfather’s garden.

When he got home he scaled, gutted and cooked the fish for his mum’s tea
