Visitors to one Warwickshire Artsweek exhibition next month will be invited in for tea and cakes as part of a week-long 'Mad Hatter's' tea party.
And while the dormouse might not be there, Kenilworth artist Jo Roberts will be.

While partaking of refreshments at her studio, visitors will be able to see her latest work – a series of prints.

Jo recently held an exhibition at Manchester Art Gallery called Goals based on interviews with Manchester City and United footballers and others who worked behind the scenes at the clubs.

She asked them what their goals were in life then created drawings based on these and their aspirations.

Visitors to the exhibition were invited to write down their goals and aspirations in an accompanying book.

She said: “I call myself a commentariographer - a word last used in 1576. It is someone who writes, mediates, ponders, portrays or records - someone who comments on current events.

“I am curious and inquisitive about people, places, things and their interaction with one another. I journey - investigating and recording the things I discover.

“I am endlessly fascinated by my life journey and the path it takes. Drawing is the foundation of my practice, using other media when appropriate to describe my findings. These I map in a variety of ways.”

Jo, who has taken part in Warwickshire Artsweek over the past four years, said the event had been a useful way in communicating what she did, maintaining her contacts and thanking the people who support her work.

Peter Jenkinson OBE, former national director of the Arts Council’s Creative Partnerships programme, describes Jo as an “alchemical force - a joy to be experienced at least once in everyone’s lifetime.”

Jo’s studio at 72 Birches Lane, Kenilworth, will be open from July 14 to 20.
